Texas A&M Softball ends Clearwater on high note, looks ahead

Texas A&M wrapped up a turbulent weekend at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational, but they closed it out on a high note. The Aggies will head back to Aggieland with a 3–2 record and turn their attention to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

A&M opened the tournament on a two‑game skid, dropping back‑to‑back Top‑25 matchups against No. 23 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Duke. Free passes piled up, defensive miscues proved costly, and despite the struggles, both losses came by a combined three runs. It wasn’t the start they wanted, but the Aggies responded with three straight wins to finish the weekend.

Head coach Trisha Ford acknowledged that this group is still working through early‑season growing pains — most of them coming from the circle. Against higher‑level competition, A&M has surrendered too many timely hits and has been forced to claw back late in games. Still, the staff believes the pieces are there; they just need time to settle into roles and find consistency.

If the first two weeks of the season have taught us anything, it’s that the SEC is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable — and entertaining — conferences in college softball.
