Barcelona icon edging towards summer departure as starting spot slips away

Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona is beginning to look uncertain, with recent developments from AS suggesting that the veteran striker could be heading towards a summer exit.

Despite his status and experience, his role in the team has gradually declined under Hansi Flick this season.

The report highlights that the Polish forward has been used from the bench far more often than expected.

Out of the 32 matches he has been available for, he has started only half, being named among the substitutes in 16 of them.

The situation is not an easy one for Flick either, as the two share a strong history from their successful time together at Bayern Munich.

That bond made Lewandowski seem like a natural fit when Flick took charge, but on the pitch, the dynamics now appear to be changing.

While the Spanish forward has not been flawless, he has received consistent backing from the coach.

As for Lewandowski, he started five of the eight Champions League group-stage matches and was selected for the Super Cup final, where he scored a goal.

Despite that, all signs now point towards a possible departure for Lewandowski at the end of the campaign.

No turnarounds

It is said that only an unexpected setback in Ferran Torres’ contract situation could potentially alter the club’s plans, although even that may not be enough to change the direction of travel.

Meanwhile, Lewandowski is said to be evaluating several options. Interest from Saudi Arabia and the United States remains on the table, but there is also a possibility that he could stay in Europe.

Clubs such as AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Fenerbahce have been mentioned as potential destinations.

For now, nothing is final, but the signs suggest that Barcelona could be preparing for life after one of their most experienced attackers.
