Jersey Bulls boss Powell happy with point

Jersey's goalless draw against AFC Whyteleafe was the Bulls' first of the season [BBC]

Jersey Bulls boss Elliot Powell was happy with the point his side earned in Saturday's goalless draw at fourth-placed AFC Whyteleafe in Isthmian League South East.

The draw extended the Bulls' unbeaten record to seven league games and kept their play-off hopes intact as they remain fifth in the table following last season's promotion from the Combined Counties League.

"Pretty content with the point. I think we would have taken that pre-game," Powell told BBC Radio Jersey.

"I thought we were the better side second half. I thought if anybody was going to nick it, it was going to be us.

"It's probably a fair result - we maybe edged it 55-45 (per cent) but we're happy with the point."

Toby Ritzema had a chance to seal victory for the Bulls but a smothering stop from Slav Huk in the Whyteleafe goal kept him at bay.

The islanders have played 31 matches so far this season, two more than Saturday's opponents, and remain inside the play-off places by a point.

Sixth-placed Sittingbourne have four games in hand but Powell maintained he would rather have the points on the board at this stage of the season.

He added: "We stay within a point of Whyteleafe. Yes, they've got some games in hand but they have to go and win them.

"What's that - one win in eight now for these boys? They are under the pump a little bit. Spending what ever they are spending a week on salaries.

"If you're not winning every week there's going to be pressure on you. No one expects Jersey to be in the play-offs so we're going to enjoy being in the race."

The Bulls' season will continue when they face third-placed Faversham Town on Saturday.
