Orangeville’s Tessa Janecke and Team USA to play for Olympic gold

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Orangeville, Illinois native Tessa Janecke and the USA women’s ice hockey team are one win away from having Olympic gold medals placed around their necks. They advanced to the championship game Monday by winning their semifinal game 5-0 over Sweden.

That was the USA’s fifth straight win by a shutout. They’ve allowed only one goal through six games, that was in the opener against Czechia. Janeke had an assist in this game giving her five in the tournament. Chicago Blackhawks player development coach Kendall Coyne-Schofield scored a goal giving her three goals in the Olympic games.

Overall, Team USA has outscored its opponents 31-1.

The USA will play Canada in the gold medal game Thursday at 12:10pm Central Time. Canada edged Switzerland 2-1 in the other semifinal game Monday. The United States defeated Canada 5-0 last week in the preliminary round.
