Cambridge United attacking midfielder Glenn McConnell has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at the Abbey Stadium until June 2028.

The 20-year-old, who joined the U's academy aged nine, has broken into the first team in 2025-2026, making 11 senior appearances to date - including four in League Two.

McConnell told the club website: "I love being at Cambridge. The way the club is going at the minute, it's a really good place to be.

"When I have been given my opportunities, I think I have performed well, and that is what has earned me this new contract.

"I have got a taste for it this season and it has shown me that I can step in and help the team. It gives me more motivation to do it again and again."

MConnell scored his first senior goal for the club against Luton Town in the EFL Trophy in October.

First-team head coach Neil Harris believes McConnell can have a big future with the club.

"It's fantastic news that Glenn has signed a long-term contract with our club," said Harris.

"He follows George Hoddle and Ben Knight in committing his future to us - young, developing players who we see real progress both on and off the pitch.

"I look forward to helping him develop, realise his potential and become a regular in the amber and black shirt."
