The Pittsburgh Penguins could be in store for some reinforcements coming out of the Olympic break.
Defenceman Kris Letang was on the ice skating with teammates on Tuesday, and is feeling “close to 100 per cent,” per team reporter Michelle Crechiolo. He anticipates he’ll be ready to play once NHL action resumes, but tempered expectations by adding “we’ll see how it goes.”
The 38-year-old missed Pittsburgh’s final four games before the break due to a fractured foot, leading to a stint on injured reserve. Letang has three goals, 22 assists and a plus-three mark through 50 games this season.
Meanwhile, Filip Hallander was also back on the ice Tuesday, per Crechiolo. The forward was diagnosed with a blood clot in November and was expected to miss at least three months.
Hallander has missed 42 consecutive games since last playing on Nov. 3 in a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 25-year-old has one goal and three assists through 13 appearances this season.
The Penguins return to action on Feb. 26, when they host the New Jersey Devils.
