Mikaela Shiffrin came into the 2026 Winter Olympics looking to break a cold spell.

Despite her deep track record of success in alpine skiing, including countless records in World Cup races and a versatility across various disciplines, the last time Shiffrin was on the Olympic stage, she went 0-for-6 in medals across all of her skiing events, including multiple DNFs.

In Milan, she narrowed her focus to three events: the slalom, giant slalom and team combined. And in her final event, she finally broke her stretch of Olympic shortcomings with a dominant performance.

Here's an updated look at Mikaela Shiffrin's medal count at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

How many medals has Mikaela Shiffrin won?

Shiffrin won her first medal of the 2026 Winter Olympics in her final event, and often her premiere event: the slalom.

After going medal-less through two events, Shiffrin dominated the slalom on Wednesday, posting a total time of 1:39.10 that led to a historically large margin of victory. Winning by 1.50 seconds, Shiffrin's margin of victory was the largest for any Olympic alpine skiing event since at least 1998. She won her third career Olympic gold medal.

After her disappointing results at Bejing in 2022, Shiffrin came into the 2026 Games seeking her first overall medal since 2018 despite plenty of World Cup victories and other non-Olympic achievements. However, the team combined and giant slalom events brought no further luck to the U.S. star in Milan.

In the team combined, Breezy Johnson helped set up the U.S. for a potential medal with a strong showing in the first leg of the race, but Shiffrin's portion wound up in a 4th-place finish, just off the podium.

Then, in her first individual event in Milan, the giant slalom, Shiffrin had a seventh-place finish on her first run, then ended up in 11th for the whole event.

But with her triumph in the slalom, Shiffrin has finally returned to the Olympic podium.

When is Mikaela Shiffrin racing next?

Shiffrin secured a gold medal in her last opportunity at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday, Feb. 18, by winning the women's slalom event.

Historically, the slalom has been her best alpine skiing discipline. Of her 108 all-time World Cup wins, 71 have come via the slalom — and Shiffrin dominated the Olympic competition in 2026, beating out second place by 1.5 seconds.
