BTB Wednesday Discussion: Should Cowboys trade a 1st-round pick for a veteran?

The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of options with their two first-round picks. Obviously the Cowboys could draft players with each selection. You can certainly make an argument that this option makes the most sense as the Cowboys would be giving themselves two high prospects with up to five years of roster control.

Another path forward is for the Cowboys to move backwards. Dallas can choose to trade out of either 12 or 20 overall with the assumed intention of accruing more draft capital. This holds weight as well.

The third door to walk through involves the Cowboys hypothetically sending one of those premium picks to a team in exchange for an established veteran. If the Cowboys really want a player then they may have to pay that sort of price, but then they risk losing years of significant team control like with our first option.

It goes without saying that variables have to line up here. The board has to work the right way, the picks or players have to be worth it, ultimately opportunity has to present itself to be capitalized on.

Hypothetically speaking, is there a veteran out there who you would walk through door number three for? If you can’t think of a specific player is there a particular set of circumstances that would have to be involved?
