The Seattle Seahawks are officially for sale. Less than two weeks after their triumphant victory in Super Bowl LX, the Paul G. Allen Estate announced they were beginning the process to sell the franchise. We have known this day was coming, and now it's about to be reality. When Paul Allen passed in 2018, his will dictated all his assets were to be sold for charity - including the Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks. The Blazers went up for sale in May of 2025. Now, the Seahawks will be going down a similar path.
A report broke from ESPN's Seth Wickersham and Brady Henderson that the Seahawks were planning to sell the team after the Super Bowl. The Allen Estate quickly denied these claims, but it appears Wickersham and Henderson's reporting was solid as always. Seattle has chosen the same investment bank as the Blazers to conduct the sale process.

Once again, we all knew this day was coming... but as I wrote in a previous Seahawks Wire article about Wickersham and Henderson's reporting, this likely feels like a cold splash of water on the 12th Man's faces. Perhaps many were hoping Jody Allen could have held onto the team for just a little longer.
But then again, the Allen Estate was likely facing external pressure from other owners in the league. Selling the Seahawks, which will likely go for a record sale, only increases the other owners' franchises valuation. Additionally, the NFL requires owners to have at least 30% ownership in the team. Since the Seahawks have been technically ran by an estate, which was managed by Jody Allen, they don't quite meet this requirement. Perhaps the NFL decided the Paul G. Allen Estate was taking too long to sell, hence the reporting from before the Super Bowl was meant to get things going.
Or perhaps this was always the plan all along. Whatever it may be, the Allen Family Era is coming to an end. It is a somber feeling, as their stewardship of the Seahawks has been nothing short of exceptional. Paul saved the team from relocating to Los Angeles, and Jody helped guide them into a new era. The Allen's have overseen eleven of Seattle's twelve division titles, all four NFC Championships and both Super Bowl victories. They are going out on top.
Once again, we at Seahawks Wire have only two words to say: thank you.
