Bild reports that Felix Magath could make a return to Wolfsburg, as he is a candidate to replace the under-fire head coach Daniel Bauer.
At the weekend, Wolfsburg dropped down into 15th and are level on points with the relegation playoff spot. This has prompted discussions about the future of Bauer as head coach, who was originally hired as an interim, but was given the permanent role before the winter break.
Now, discussions are underway about potentially making a change and bringing in a new head coach to guide them to safety.
Dino Toppmöller, Thomas Reis and ex-Wolfsburg head coach Dieter Hecking have been mentioned, and now so has Magath.
The 72-year-old’s last managerial role saw him rescue Hertha Berlin through the relegation playoff against Hamburg back in 2022.
Magath and Wolfsburg’s history:
Magath has had two spells in the Autostadt, both with varying success. His first spell is his most famous, along with his hard and questionable training techniques. The former Hamburg midfielder led Wolfsburg to their only Bundesliga title with the help of Edin Dzeko and Grafite.
He would return for a second spell in where he guided them away from relegation, something Magath will have to do again if he returns to the Volkswagen Arena.
