Konstantinos Karetsas: Why Man United want to sign Genk sensation

Konstantinos Karetsas: Why Man United want to sign Genk sensation
Konstantinos Karetsas: Why Man United want to sign Genk sensation

Manchester United are reportedly interested in KRC Genk prodigy Konstantinos Karetsas.

It has been widely reported that United are in the hunt for a new left winger, having been strongly linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

As far as the opposite flank is concerned, United look good, at least on paper. Both Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo have featured regularly for the Red Devils this season. However, Mbeumo has looked more effective as a central forward than as an out-and-out winger.

Manchester United want competition for Amad Diallo

According to SportsBoom, Manchester United have set their sights on Konstantinos Karetsas as they see him as a project player who could support Amad Diallo.

Karetsas is enjoying an outstanding season. The 18-year-old Greek prodigy, who was born in Belgium, has already become Genk’s starting right winger.

He has made 45 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and registering a staggering 18 assists.

Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well, Karetsas has been compared to Bernardo Silva for his link-up ability and has been described as the “assist king”.

Karetsas is understood to be “exactly” the type of player United want to complement Diallo at Old Trafford.

Manchester United in strong financial position to sign Konstantinos Karetsas

The Greek international is under contract until 2029. As such, Genk are going to make it very difficult for his suitors, including United, to prise him away in the summer.

It is claimed they are demanding €45 million (£39.1m) to open negotiations for the teenage tempo-setter. “Any club that meets or exceeds that valuation will gain the advantage, while increasing offers will naturally drive the price even higher,” the report adds.

Konstantinos Karetsas Stats: 2025/26 Season

Interestingly, it is understood that United have the “financial capacity to complete such a deal” even if Champions League qualification is not secured.

Karetsas has previously been linked with Real Madrid, but at the moment, his chances of moving to the Premier League are “significantly higher than any other league.” Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the Genk star.

Newcastle United vs Bournemouth – Predicted lineup and team news
Newcastle United vs Bournemouth – Predicted lineup and team news

Newcastle United host Bournemouth today, aiming to halt a disastrous run of three straight defeats.

The Magpies have slipped to 14th place following a period of real instability on Tyneside. Manager Eddie Howe is under intense pressure as his side continues to drop points. Newcastle have lost seven league matches when scoring first this season. This is the highest number recorded by any team in Premier League history. Victory today is essential to avoid falling further into mid-table obscurity.

Newcastle have conceded in all seven of their Premier League home games against the Cherries. St James’ Park has recently lost its fortress status after four losses in five games. However, the hosts can take encouragement from the development of their young stars. Notably, teenage midfielder Lewis Miley has been involved in ten goals this campaign. He is only the second teenager in club history to reach that milestone.

Newcastle United team news

Eddie Howe must find a way to reinvigorate his side despite missing several key performers. Joelinton is unavailable for selection today as he serves a suspension for ten bookings. This absence forces a significant reshuffle in the heart of the Newcastle midfield. Furthermore, Fabian Schär remains out following minor surgery on his foot recently. These mounting injuries are clearly taking a toll on the squad’s consistency.

There is a slight chance that Bruno Guimarães could feature this afternoon. He has missed two months with a thigh injury but is nearing a return. Howe admitted it remains touch and go whether the Brazilian will be ready. Aaron Ramsdale is expected to start between the posts for the Magpies. He will be protected by a backline featuring Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw.

Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes will provide the width for the hosts today. They will look to support William Osula in the absence of other attacking options. Newcastle have lost six home games this season, their most under Eddie Howe. Consequently, the team must show improved defensive discipline to contain a clinical Bournemouth. The fans will expect a high-intensity performance to clear the current clouds.

Commanders land star linebacker in NFL scout's mock draft

With less than one week until the 2026 NFL Draft, mock drafts are dropping in droves. Most mock drafts are traditional, but others take a different angle. This week, ESPN's Matt Miller tasked 10 scouts with making the first 10 picks in the draft, but there are rules. Scouts are anonymous, assigned to a team they do not work for, and in most cases, the team they picked for was from a different conference altogether. There are also no trades.

Miller asked the scouts to make their picks based on their respective team's roster needs and their own personal evaluations of this year's draft class. For the Washington Commanders, one of the AFC East area scouts chose a defensive player.

AFC East area scout's pick: Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio StateAnother pick, another scout preferring to trade out. That was the desire of the second AFC East area scout we enlisted for this exercise when given the Commanders.Get ready for the 2026 NFL draft"The Commanders don't have one glaring need, and in a draft light on blue-chip talent, it's tempting to trade back and get more capital instead of debating between a non-premium position or maybe drafting a third cornerback. But I have an idea," he sent back after some pushback on the no-trade rules."Dan Quinn knows the value of a linebacker with range and playmaking ability -- it's why he signed Bobby Wagner. Styles has that athletic ability, but he's 6-foot-5, eliminates passing windows, and he's a capable blitzer, too."Styles was everywhere in his three seasons as a starter, notching 235 tackles with nine sacks, nine passes defensed and an interception. He was the Buckeyes' team captain last season and earned first-team All-America honors while leading OSU in tackles with 82. Styles' upside is remarkable, with comparisons to Fred Warner often made when discussing him with NFL teams.

It is entirely possible that the Commanders trade down from number seven simply to gain draft capital, even though GM Adam Peters said otherwise. Trading down comes with this risk. There are a lack of players with first-round grades in this class. By sticking at No. 7, Washington could land a game-changing talent.

If the Commanders remain at No. 7, and he's available, Sonny Styles is a great pick for all the reasons the scout listed. He is literally everywhere on the field, and there was a reason he was chosen to wear the Block O this season at Ohio State. He has the size and skill that translate well into the NFL, and whichever team drafts him won't be sorry. Styles was born to play in the NFL, literally, he's a rare athlete who lives and breathes football, and will bring the type of character and leadership that Peters and head coach Dan Quinn crave.

Styles would also give Washington its version of Jayden Daniels on the defensive side of the ball.
