Mike Macdonald provides update on Zach Charbonnet's rehab

Zach Charbonnet underwent surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Feb. 20. He started training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list, and it seems likely he will begin the season on the reserve/PUP list.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald provided an update on the running back's rehab. forestarrow.rest

"It’s just a progression that you’ve got to be able to do to get your body ready to play, especially at the running back position," Macdonald said, via video from Brian Nemhauser of hawkblogger.com. "He’s going through it, hitting his hurdles, and we’re rolling.

"We’ll see what the timetable is and how quickly he comes back.”

Charbonnet injured his knee on his fifth carry in the divisional round of the playoffs after running for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns on 184 carries in the regular season. The Seahawks drafted running back Jadarian Price in the first round as a replacement for Kenneth Walker, who won the Super Bowl MVP award before leaving for Kansas City in the offseason.

Deebo Samuel's deal has a $4.1 million base, and up to $2.9 million in incentives

The initial reports as to many NFL player contracts focus on the "up to" amount, since it's a bigger number — and it's usually the number that gets attached to the deal.

Receiver Deebo Samuel's one-year homecoming contract with the 49ers is worth "up to" $7 million. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area has supplied some of the details.

Samuel gets a $490,000 roster bonus and a base salary of $3.27 million. The base deal includes a per-game roster bonus of $20,000 per game, for a total of $340,000. That pushes the base value to $4.1 million.

The remaining $2.9 million comes in the form of incentives.

Per Maiocco, Samuel earns $200,000 bonus if he has at least 600 yards from scrimmage in the regular season. The number increases to $450,000 if Samuel has 803 or more scrimmage yards. The figure doubles if the 49ers make the playoffs.

There's another $200,000 tied to scoring five touchdowns. At seven touchdowns, it moves to $450,000. Again, the incentive doubles if the 49ers qualify for the postseason.

If he returns at least 20 kickoffs and ranks tenth or higher in average yards per return, Samuel will earn $250,000. It doubles if the 49ers make the playoffs.

If he participates in at least 68 percent of the offensive snaps, Samuel earns another $250,000. Again, it doubles if they land in the postseason field.

Finally, Samuel gets $100,000 if he's named to the Pro Bowl team on the initial ballot.

The incentives confirm the recent comments from G.M. John Lynch that Samuel will play receiver and running back — and return kicks.
