Toby Collyer: Man United loanee season from hell continues at Hull City
Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer has endured a nightmare season so far.
Early United career
The England youth captain broke through into the first team in 2024, making his senior debut under Erik ten Hag in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.
He also featured under Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim last season and made a total of 13 appearances for the first team.
Nonetheless, it was decided in the summer that he would not be part of this season’s first team plans, so he went out on loan to West Bromwich Albion.
Injury hell
Collyer managed just 12 appearances for the Baggies and contributed one assist.
What’s more, many of his appearances were as late substitutes, so he only managed to play 253 minutes for the Championship club.
A calf injury ended his loan at West Brom, and he returned to Old Trafford in January.
Hull City
Despite his problems, Collyer secured a loan move to Hull City last month.
He played one match for his new side, making a 14-minute appearance off the bench before facing more disappointment.
Collyer picked up a fresh injury last week, and now the extent of the problem has been revealed.
The Manchester Evening News reports that, “Toby Collyer will miss up to three weeks of Hull City’s promotion charge after being ruled out with a hamstring injury that he picked up in training ahead of the Tigers’ FA Cup tie with Chelsea.”
What’s more, “he was due to be involved in Friday night’s fourth-round tie against Chelsea, which the Premier League side won 4-0, before going down with the hamstring problem on Wednesday.”
The extent of his injury was revealed after the match by his new manager, Sergej Jakirovic.
Therefore, it is unlikely Collyer will play again until March at the earliest.
