Braves Trade Catcher Heim to Athletics

The Atlanta Braves have traded catcher Jonah Heim to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for cash considerations, just hours after designating him for assignment.

With Sean Murphy set to return from the injured list, the Braves made the move to clear roster space. Heim had been serving as backup to Drake Baldwin, hitting .231/.311/.410 with 99 wRC+ in 45 plate appearances.

The Braves, dealing with an injured outfield, had to part ways with the veteran catcher. If needed, the club will likely call up Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Gwinnett to serve as the backup. afsport.lat
