Dodgers' Vesia Returns to Mound After Daughter's Death

Alex Vesia returned to the Dodgers mound on Feb. 23 after the death of his newborn daughter, marking his first appearance since the NLCS. He said the support of teammates helped him regain focus.

Alex Vesia made his first spring appearance for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, Feb. 23, pitching a perfect inning after the loss of his newborn daughter, Sterling Sole, during the postseason. The left‑hander, who missed the NLCS and playoffs, returned to the mound with a renewed focus and a strikeout in his first outing.

Vesia credited therapy and the support of teammates for helping him cope. “It was overwhelming, but I just want to have fun on the mound,” he said, noting that talking with his teammates has been a blessing.
