The Italian rugby team will debut a special "Garibaldi Red" jersey in their Six Nations clash with France in Lille, breaking with tradition of wearing white change strips. The new kit commemorates Giuseppe Garibaldi, the 19th-century general who played a key role in Italy's unification, and his loyal volunteers known as "redshirts" for their distinctive jackets.
The jersey was unveiled at Quarto dei Mille near Genoa, where Garibaldi launched the "Expedition of the Thousand" in 1860. Italy's women's team will also wear the special jersey as part of their Six Nations campaign, paying tribute to the values of heroism and indomitable spirit that Garibaldi's soldiers embodied.
