January Headline Inflation Holds at 3.8%, Underlying Rises

Headline inflation held steady at 3.8% in January, unchanged from December, while underlying inflation rose slightly. Both rates were above expectations.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that headline inflation in January was 3.8%, the same rate as December. The figure was higher than economists had forecasted.

Underlying inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, also ticked up, surpassing expectations. The data suggest inflationary pressures remain stronger than anticipated.
