Penguins rout Islanders 8-3, leapfrog into second place

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 8-3, with Anthony Mantha scoring twice and Rickard Rakell netting two goals, to leapfrog into second place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Penguins trailed 3-1 midway through the second period but scored four times in less than six and a half minutes to take control. Mantha added a goal and an assist, while Rakell finished with a brace.

The win moved Pittsburgh to 90 points, one ahead of the Islanders at 89, and left the Penguins with eight games remaining while the Islanders have seven. Sidney Crosby returned from injury, and Arturs Silovs made a strong stay‑away for Pittsburgh.
