February 2016 was a bleak time at Manchester United.
Heading in to the second leg of the Europa League round of 32, Louis Van Gaal's men were trailing Danish side FC Midtjylland 2-1 and an injury crisis at the club made reaching the last 16 an uphill battle.
An injury to Anthony Martial - the club's only available senior striker - in the warm up to the match, dampened the mood even further inside Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford, a forward not known to many outside of the club's academy, was drafted into the starting line-up to make his debut for his boyhood club. Never in his wildest dreams could he have imagined what was to come.
The youngster showed glimpses of promise in the opening exchanges of the match, but United were trailing 3-2 on aggregate at half-time. Their chances of progression were getting slimmer by the second, but Rashford had other ideas.
In the 63rd minute, Rashford emerged on the end of Juan Mata's cutback to slot home his first ever goal in senior football, surpassing George Best to become Manchester United's then-youngest ever goalscorer in Europe.
Already on cloud nine, Rashford fired home a second from Guillermo Varela's cross just 12 minutes later to make the tie level. Rashford's heroics completely swung the momentum of the match, with United running out eventual 6-3 winners on aggregate.
"It's what football is all about and what this club has been about for so long," now- United manager Michael Carrick said after the match. "For a local lad to do that and come through the youth system, I'm delighted for him."
This magical Thursday night was the start of Rashford's iconic Manchester United career, making a further 425 appearances for the club and scoring 136 more goals - including another brace just three days later on his Premier League debut against Arsenal.
