The Miami Hurricanes went 1-1 last week, whiffing on a huge opportunity to beat Virginia on the road but rebounding to beat Florida State in Tallahassee, avenging their early season loss to the Seminoles.
Even with the Virginia loss, Miami inched up a few brackets this week:
Miami has three games remaining in the regular season:
- Boston College (home) – Saturday Feb. 28th on ACCN at 2:00pm ET
- SMU (away) – Wednesday Mar. 4th on ACCN at 7:00pm ET
- Louisville (home) – Saturday Mar. 7th on ESPN at 2:00pm ET
Saturday’s game against Boston College is the last possible ‘bad’ loss for Miami. Take care of business and Miami should be an official lock for the NCAA tournament, with several opportunities remaining to continue their ascent up prognosticators’ brackets.
Miami also controls its destiny in earning a coveted double-bye into the ACC Tournament’s quarterfinals. The Hurricanes sit alone at third in the conference standings and have a head-to-head tiebreaker with NC State and North Carolina who are one game back.
The ACC on the whole looks like an eight bid league, possibly nine depending on how Cal and VT finish down the stretch. Cal, which was arguably Miami’s second-worst loss this season, is on a three game win streak and now sits squarely on the bubble. They finish the year against Pitt, GT, and Wake Forest. As for Virginia Tech, they have resume improvement opportunities with away games against North Carolina and Virginia. On the flip side, Clemson has lost its last four games and is in a complete free fall from lock to bubble status.
