Girls basketball: New standard set by outgoing Springfield seniors

Feb. 27—Monday brought a fast ending to the season and careers of five Springfield girls basketball seniors.

Top-ranked and undefeated Fairmont advanced with a Division I district semifinal win over the Wildcats. But the result didn't erase how the Wildcats program has advanced from mediocrity into a more respected group over the past four seasons.

Day'veonna Boynton, Jada Crockran, Kleighonna Grable, Daryn Hitchcock, and Milly Portis all can be remembered as the group that began a potential turn around of the Springfield girls basketball program.
