Falcons fire LaTroy Lewis amid sexual assault allegations

The Atlanta Falcons fired assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis, who is currently being investigated by the Ann Arbor Police Department for sexual assault allegations.

The Falcons announced Lewis’ dismal on Friday.

The sexual assault allegations against Lewis stem from his time as an assistant coach at Michigan. Lewis first joined Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff at Michigan as a defensive graduate assistant in 2022 before a promotion to defensive analyst in 2024, according to his LinkedIn.

Lewis spent the 2025 season as Toledo's defensive line coach. He was then hired by new Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski this offseason.

“The Ann Arbor Police Department was just recently made aware of allegations regarding a sexual assault reported to have occurred on December 5, 2024. The AAPD Detective Bureau launched an immediate investigation into the incident. This investigation remains active and ongoing,” spokesperson for Ann Arbor Police, Chris Page, said in a statement obtained by the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network.

The allegations levied against Lewis stem from an alleged assault by Lewis on a victim, who subsequently told ex-Michigan coach Sherrone Moore about the assault. Moore allegedly did not report what the victim allegedly told him to the proper people.

Paul Corliss, the University of Michigan's assistant vice president of public affairs, released the following statement when the Detroit Free Press asked for comment.

“These allegations are deeply concerning," Corliss said in a statement. "As we have noted, the University launched an investigation of the circumstances and conduct leading to Sherrone Moore’s firing, as well as a broader culture review of the Athletic Department. We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the law firm conducting the investigation at [email protected]. The work is ongoing, and we will be able to share more when it is completed."

According to the Detroit Free Press, Moore's lawyer, Ellen Michaels, denied the allegations against her client.

"Sherrone Moore did not fail to report misconduct, did not reward wrongdoing, and did not harass anyone. These claims are false."

Lewis, 32, was a college football player at Tennessee. He played in two NFL games with the Houston Texans during the 2017 season.
