The LFP confirmed earlier on Saturday that Paris Saint-Germain’s game against FC Nantes, scheduled to take place later this month, in between a two-legged UEFA Champions League tie against Chelsea, would be postponed.
It is a measure to aid PSG’s preparation for the Champions League Round of 16 tie, similar to a measure taken last year in order to bolster Les Parisiens’ chances against Aston Villa. PSG would, of course, go on to win the competition.
Nantes agreed to the postponement and the LFP have already ratified the decision. The LFP have announced that the Ligue 1 game will now take place during the week of 20th April. It was a fixture between the pair last season that was also postponed.
The LFP’s decision has raised some eyebrows, but Luis Enrique has defended the decision. “It is very positive. I think that it is important for the city of Paris and for France, too,” the Spaniard told Ligue 1 Plus on Saturday night, following his side’s slender 1-0 win over Le Havre AC. The reigning European champions are currently top of Ligue 1, four points clear of second-placed side RC Lens.
