Paris Saint-Germain have struggled from the spot all season. The reigning European champions have been awarded 10 penalties in all competitions, but have netted just half of them.
Against Le Havre AC on Saturday night, it was Désiré Doué who stepped up. At the time, his side were already 1-0 up against Didier Digard’s side. Doué, who has returned to form in spectacular style in recent weeks, opted to go to the left of Les Ciel et Marine goalkeeper Mory Diaw. However, he went the right way and made the save, with the shot at a good height.
PSG extend lead at top of Ligue 1
The ball rebounded in Doué’s direction, but the France international could not control it to get another shot away. Ultimately, the miss would prove inconsequential as PSG would see out a 1-0 win at the Stade Océane, which extends their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to four points, after RC Lens were held by RC Strasbourg Alsace on Friday night.
Speaking to Ligue 1 Plus post-match, Diaw revealed how he stopped Doué’s spot kick. “I am a PSG fan. I saw the penalty that he took against Liverpool and chose the same side,” said the Senegal international.
