Fulham 2-1 Tottenham: Premier League Pressure Mounts for Spurs
Fulham strengthened their push for European qualification with a deserved 2-1 Premier League victory over Tottenham, while the visitors’ alarming slide deepened. At Craven Cottage, Marco Silva’s side displayed clarity and conviction. Tottenham, by contrast, looked fragile and short of belief.
For Spurs, this defeat extends a miserable sequence to 10 league matches without a win in 2026. The numbers are stark. The performance raised further concerns.
Early Goals Set Premier League Tone
Fulham struck inside seven minutes. Harry Wilson, lively and alert, volleyed home from close range for his ninth goal of the season. The build up sparked debate. Igor Tudor believed Raul Jimenez had pushed Radu Dragusin in the aerial challenge before the ball reached Wilson. Following a VAR check, the goal stood, prompting visible frustration from the Tottenham bench.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 34th minute. Alex Iwobi found space 18 yards out and curled a fine effort in off the post after combining neatly with Wilson. It was composed, measured and indicative of Fulham’s control during the first half.
Tottenham’s defensive structure appeared hesitant. Fulham might have extended the advantage before the interval. Calvin Bassey fired over from close range, while Jimenez and Emile Smith Rowe also spurned openings. Spurs were relieved to reach the break only two behind.
Fulham Eye European Return
Silva’s side are ninth in the Premier League table, level on goal difference with eighth placed Everton. Eighth could prove sufficient for European football next season, and Fulham are building momentum at home. This was their eighth win in 14 league matches at Craven Cottage.
It also marked only the second time in their history that Fulham have completed a league double over Tottenham, having previously achieved it in the 2003-04 campaign. Such milestones reinforce the steady progress under Silva.
Richarlison’s header in the 66th minute, from Archie Gray’s cross, set up a tense finale. Tom Cairney nearly scored with his first touch off the bench, shooting narrowly wide. The closing stages were anxious, yet Fulham retained discipline and secured three valuable points.
Their next Premier League fixture sees West Ham visit, before an FA Cup tie against Southampton. Momentum now feels tangible.
Tottenham Struggles Continue
Tottenham sit 16th, four points above the relegation zone with 10 games remaining. Since Igor Tudor replaced Thomas Frank, Spurs have lost both matches and conceded six goals. Their defensive frailty is evident, their attacking output limited.
They registered only one shot on target, Richarlison’s goal. Aside from a late Pape Sarr effort that found the side netting and a blocked Joao Palhinha strike in added time, a leveller rarely seemed likely.
Tudor declared himself “100%” confident of survival upon his appointment. Confidence alone will not suffice. Spurs last endured a 10 match winless league run at the start of 1994 under Ossie Ardiles. On that occasion, they avoided relegation narrowly.
The Premier League rarely affords sympathy. Tottenham’s four point cushion over 18th placed West Ham offers some breathing space, yet the trajectory is concerning. Crystal Palace await next, six points better off and sensing vulnerability.
Fulham look upward with ambition. Tottenham glance anxiously over their shoulder. At Craven Cottage, the contrast was unmistakable.
