Manchester City are reportedly set to go big to sign a Newcastle full-back

Right-back does seem to be a position that Manchester City will look to strengthen this summer. Matheus Nunes has been superb for Pep Guardiola’s side in the position. In fact, it isn’t a stretch to say that Nunes has been one of the top right-backs in the Premier League this based on his performances. Despite this, there is value in City signing another right-back this summer. That way there will competition for Matheus Nunes and Abdukodir Khusanov looks set for big future at Manchester City playing at centre-back.

A new report indicates that City could be poised to go big in a bid to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle this summer. There is no doubting the quality of Livramento when he is fit. The question seems to be if that is a wise move by City to pursue, as there may be cheaper alternatives available in the summer transfer window to slot in at right-back.

Manchester City could be set to go big in a bid to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle.

Graeme Bailey has reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City are poised to launch a massive bid in the summer to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle. Furthermore, Bailey reports that City could be prepared to pay between £60-70 million to sign the England international. Graeme Bailey reports that Newcastle has been intent on getting Livramento to sign a contract extension. As of right now, there is no indication that Livramento is willing to sign a fresh contract with Newcastle. It is also reported by Graeme Bailey that Manchester City believes that Tino Livramento would be keen to complete a move to City. Lastly, Graeme Bailey reports that Newcastle would demand at least £70 million to sell Tino Livramento.

Could there be a cheaper right-back option for City to pursue to provide competition for Matheus Nunes?

There is no doubting Tino Livramento’s quality as a player when he is fit. That isn’t the issue. The issue is Tino Livramento’s injury history. Livramento has had knee and hamstring issues throughout his career. Perhaps questions over his durability could see City look elsewhere to sign a right-back, especially given that Matheus Nunes has done nothing wrong and has fully earned his status as Manchester City’s number one right-back.

Brentford right-back Michael Kayode ans AS Roma’s versatile full-back Wesley do loom as alternatives to Tino Livramento. Both players are young and would provide competition for Matheus Nunes. Also, they may be better value for money than spending £70 million on Tino Livramento, who is a superb player when fit. The questions surrounding his fitness issues do make such a big-money move a risk. Kayode and Wesley could be the players City look to instead of Livramento based on these factors.

Manchester City have once again been linked with a move for Tino Livramento. The England international wouldn’t come cheap, as Graeme Bailey reports. It remains to be seen if City do pursue a move for Livramento, as there seem to be two alternative options for City to pursue at the right-back position.
