2026 Flat Branch Ultra sets state running records
More than 20 Missouri running records fell at the 2026 Flat Branch Ultra as Brendan Connell and Jessalyn Sadler sped to overall victories on Columbia’s USATF-certified 50K course. The Feb. 21 event delivered a surge of strong performances on the MKT and Katy Trails, according to a community announcement.
Organizers said runners broke 23 Missouri state records documented at StateRunningRecords.com, according to the announcement. Connell won the race in 3:01:32, and Sadler captured the women’s title in 3:26:47 as athletes posted competitive marks across multiple age groups.
Race director John Shelby of Ha Ha Racing Events said the certified course was designed to offer a fast, accurate and well-supported 50K experience, according to the announcement. The out-and-back route includes stretches along the Missouri River, nearby bluff views and a pass by the historic Burr Oak.
The Flat Branch Ultra is held each year on the third Saturday in February with an 8 a.m. start time. Fleet Feet Columbia and Fleet Feet Jefferson City served as title sponsors for the 2026 event.
