The Houston Texans traded a 2026 fourth‑round pick, a 2027 seventh‑round pick and offensive tackle Juice Scruggs to the Detroit Lions for running back David Montgomery. Montgomery will be the Texans’ lead back in 2026, pairing with Woody Marks on the backfield.

Montgomery, 28, has rushed for 2,506 yards, 650 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns over three seasons with Detroit, averaging 740 yards per season as a No. 2 back. Experts gave the trade a B+, noting the price was steep but the veteran’s red‑zone power fits Houston’s zone‑based offense.
