U.S. Hockey Goalie Regrets Laughing at Trump's Women's Team Joke

U.S. men's hockey goalie Jeremy Swayman expressed regret about laughing at President Trump's joke aimed at the women's team following their Olympic victory.

The Boston Bruins player acknowledged the team should have reacted differently when Trump made a quip about inviting the women's squad to the State of the Union during a congratulatory call. 'We are so excited for the women's team,' Swayman said, per MassLive. 'We have so much respect for the women's team, and to share that gold medal with them is something we're forever grateful for.'

Five members of the men's team declined Trump's invitation to the State of the Union address, while the women's team also snubbed the president's offer after calling his comment 'distasteful.' The women's team captain Hilary Knight noted their win was a 'great teaching point and really shines light on how women should be championed for their amazing feats.'
