Real Madrid defender sends reassuring message after frightening injury concern: ‘Just a scare’

There were worrying scenes at the Santiago Bernabeu as Raul Asencio suffered a serious collision during Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica.

The incident occurred in the 77th minute when the defender clashed heavily and accidentally with teammate Eduardo Camavinga.

The impact immediately caused concern inside the stadium. Asencio went down in visible pain, prompting medical staff to rush onto the pitch without delay.

A major scare

Given the nature of the collision, the referee quickly applied the head injury protocol.

The situation looked serious enough that doctors decided to immobilise the player on the field.

A neck brace was applied before he was carefully placed on a stretcher. The Bernabeu fell silent for a few moments before erupting into applause as Asencio was carried off.

Several Real Madrid players appeared shaken. Cameras captured anxious expressions across the pitch, with teammates clearly fearing the worst.

The tension inside the stadium was impossible to ignore as supporters chanted the defender’s name while he left the field.

As a precaution, Asencio was transferred by ambulance to the club’s hospital facilities in Valdebebas for further checks.

Initial examinations were conducted in the dressing room before the decision was made to keep him under observation for several hours.

Reassuring message

Fortunately, the defender later reassured everyone with a message posted during the early hours of the morning. Sharing an update with fans on social media, he wrote:

“Thank you for all the messages of support! It was just a scare!! Let’s go for the next round. Hala Madrid,” he wrote.

Those words brought relief to Madridistas who had feared a more serious outcome.

After spending a few hours under medical supervision, Asencio was allowed to leave the hospital.

While the club has yet to release a detailed medical report, the early signs are positive.
