Jets' great Breece Hall news isn't good for Chiefs originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Breece Hall has been linked to a number of teams as a free agent running back, including the Kansas City Chiefs.
Turns out the New York Jets' RB may not make it to free agency at all, though.
ESPN's Dan Graziano has reported the latest news on Hall in a new article this weekend: "(Hall) will either get a deal done with the Jets before Tuesday's tag deadline or receive a franchise or transition tag."
The transition tag, which is less familiar, would allow Hall to negotiate with other teams while giving the Jets the right to match any offer given to Hall.
Essentially, all of those paths allow the Jets to keep Hall around.
And if Hall stays with the Jets, the Chiefs miss out. The free agent RB pool of top names would be reduced to Kenneth Walker and Travis Etienne, along with second-tier options Rico Dowdle and Tyler Allgeier.

Those aren't bad choices for the Chiefs, but they of course aren't the only team that wants a new running back. There's just one less guy to go around if Hall stays with the Jets.
Hall also seemed like an ideal fit for the Chiefs and Andy Reid. He's got a lot of Brian Westbrook-like qualities as both a runner and receiver from the RB position.
The Jets have a lot to figure out this offseason, but they'd likely feel better if they get Hall signed before free agency even opens.
That way, they can focus on QB, WR and all their other needs, with also a chance to improve in the draft.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs would have to turn their negotiating focus away from Hall to one of the other available backs.
